Am I the only one who thinks cheap zone resistors are fine and the $40 ones are a waste?
Every installer I know swears you need the $40 end-of-line resistor kits, but I bought a bag of 100 plain resistors for about $9 off a supply site last year and they have been rock solid on 60 plus panel jobs. The fancy ones with the little plastic housing just hide the splice, and I have seen two of them come loose at the screw terminal because guys trust the housing instead of tugging the wire. I check every connection with a meter before I close the can, and I have not had one call back on a zone fault yet. What is the actual failure rate you all are seeing with bare resistors, because I am starting to think the pricey kits are just a comfort blanket.
