I finally gave up on trying to make a customer's existing 20-year-old wiring work for a new smart panel install last month.

After spending 4 hours chasing gremlins in their attic in Augusta, I ripped it all out and ran new 22/4, which cost me half a day but saved the job from constant false alarms. Anyone else just hit that point where you stop trying to salvage ancient cable?

Ugh, been there, new wire is the only fix sometimes.

Five years ago I would've tried to patch it up and call it good, but after dealing with a faulty speaker wire that kept cutting out, I get it now. You're right, sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet and replace the whole thing.
