My mentor's panel testing habit saved me a callback last month
Old Dave who trained me back in 2006 always said to test every zone with a real magnet, not just the keypad chime. I thought he was wasting time on new installs, so I skipped it on a job in Springfield. Last month I got a call from the homeowner that the back door sensor showed closed when it was open. Turns out the recessed contact was seated too deep and the magnet barely lined up. I drove 40 minutes out there on a Saturday, and it took me two hours to fix what Dave's habit would have caught in 30 seconds. I called him that night just to say he was right all along. Has anyone else had a similar lesson from an older installer that you ignored at first?

Buddy skipped the coolant test, cost him a whole compressor rebuild.
