Picked hardwired sensors over wireless for a 1920s house on Elm St and now I'm chasing ghosts
Client wanted full coverage on a 1920s build with plaster and lath walls, so I chose hardwired door contacts instead of wireless to avoid battery swaps, and it took two of us 14 hours to fish cable through that old framing. Now the panel shows a zone fault that comes and goes, and I have pulled the same contact twice looking for a staple that might be biting the jacket. Has anyone else had a phantom zone on old knob and tube wiring, and how did you track it down without tearing out more plaster?
