PSA: My wife's friend said our home system looked 'like a spiderweb' and it actually got to me.

She pointed at the sensor wires I'd run along the baseboard in the living room and asked if we were going for an 'industrial' look. Anyone else get weird feedback from non-trades people that makes you second-guess your installs?

But honestly, maybe she's got a point and the spiderweb look is fine. I've seen guys run wire with cable staples that look way worse than baseboard runs, and nobody says anything. At the end of the day the system works and it's hidden enough that only someone really looking for it will notice. Plus if you start painting channels and hiding everything, you're adding time and cost to a job that's already done. Seems like overkill to worry about what a friend of a friend thinks about your trim work when the system is functional and secure.

Tell her you're just keeping the house safe from burglars and spiders, two birds with one stone lol. Seriously though, I've started using paintable wire channels for any run in a main living area. It blends right into the trim once you color match it, and non-tech people stop noticing it completely. That industrial comment would bug me too, but it's an easy fix for next time.
