PSA: That zip tie trick for wireless sensors backfired on me in a Denver retrofit

I used cable ties to mount two door sensors on a metal frame last Tuesday, and by Friday both signals dropped because the tie twisted the antenna just enough to kill the range, so has anyone else hit this with non-contact mounts or do you all bite the bullet and buy the proper brackets?
