A neighbor in the North Valley called out my patio slope last week.

He said my new flagstone patio was pitched toward the house, not away, and would flood the foundation. I had to pull up about 300 square feet of stone and redo the gravel base with a proper grade. Has anyone else had a pro catch a major drainage mistake you missed?

Pitched toward the house" is why I now trust a pro's eye over my own DIY confidence every time.

Honestly, I get where @sanchez.robin is coming from, but sometimes a pro can miss the bigger picture too. My cousin hired a landscaper who insisted on a standard slope away from the house, but it just sent all the water rushing into her garden beds and killing the plants. She had to redo it herself with a gentler grade toward a dry well. A rule of thumb doesn't fit every yard. Tbh, you still gotta check their work and think about where that water actually ends up.
