Chose fiber cement siding over hardie board for my garage and actually saved $400

Wait, is that a real thing or did you mean Hardie board is a brand of fiber cement siding? Because that's basically what they make... I mean Hardie is the most common fiber cement brand around here so that's like saying you chose soda over Coke or something, lol. But hey $400 saved is $400 saved, doesn't matter what you call it as long as it holds up. I just hope you didn't get some knockoff that's gonna crack first winter.

@skylergrant makes a good point, and honestly I wondered the same thing when I read the original post. Fiber cement is the type, Hardie is just the most popular brand of it, so you probably didn't get a lesser product, just a better price. I've seen some off brands hold up fine for years, and some name brands fail early, so it really comes down to how you install it and your local weather. $400 is a nice chunk to put toward something else, so I'd say you did good. Hope it treats you well, and if it cracks, well, at least you saved the cash to fix it.
