Hot take: a water heater blanket saved me $8 a month in Albuquerque, but my neighbor says skip it
I read on the PNM site that water heating is around 18% of a home's energy bill, and that got me curious about cheap fixes. So I put a $30 blanket on my 12 year old tank here in the Northeast Heights and tracked my gas bill for two months, and it dropped about $8 a month. My neighbor says it's a waste since his tank lives in a hot garage anyway, and I can see his point. I'm not ready to call it a total win either since the payback is almost 4 months if the numbers hold. Has anyone here tested this on an older tank? I'd like to know if the savings stick through winter or if it was just a mild fall.
