I finally admitted my contractor was right about spray foam insulation

About 8 months ago my contractor kept pushing me to go with spray foam in the attic of my 1950s bungalow near Nob Hill. I fought him on it hard because I'd read online that it traps moisture and can rot your roof decking. Plus it costs like $2,800 more than fiberglass batts for my 1200 square foot attic. Well I went with fiberglass and now my utility bills are through the roof literally because my upstairs stays freezing in winter and boiling in summer. I called him back last week and he showed me the infrared readings from my attic floor. Huge cold spots everywhere. I'm seriously considering ripping it all out and doing the foam right. Has anyone else had to eat crow on a reno decision like this? What did it cost you to fix it?

The way we do stuff now is always pay less now and more later I swear. Its like people forgot that sometimes spending a little more upfront saves you a headache down the road. I see this all the time with customers buying the cheapest tools or paint and then coming back to complain it fell apart after a month. Same thing with insulation, people just want the lowest number on the receipt and dont think about what happens in July or January. Its a real shame cause that $2,800 difference probably gets eaten up by your power bill in a year or two anyway. Your contractor was looking out for you and it sucks you had to learn it the hard way but at least now you know.

$2,800 is a tough pill to swallow, no joke.

$2,800 more for spray foam? That's a price tag that made me do a double take.
