I finally stopped insulating attics the old way after a contractor chewed me out

My buddy Carlos from Total Home Solutions in Albuquerque told me I was wasting money using fiberglass batts in attics because they sag and leave gaps. I didn't believe him until I went back to a job I did on Juan Tabo last summer and saw daylight through the insulation. Spent a full Saturday pulling it all out and swapping to blown-in cellulose. Anyone else get stubborn about changing their go-to method?

Funny you mention that. I was all in on fiberglass batts for years. Thought I had it down perfect. Then I went back to a rental property I'd insulated near the river and saw the same thing. Batts had slid down the sloped rafters, left huge gaps at the eaves. Pulled it all out, went with cellulose. Never looked back. That extra R-value and tight air seal made the house quieter too. Feels good to admit when your old way is wrong.

Yeah, I had a buddy tell me almost the same thing. He redid his whole attic after finding batts all bunched up against the ridge, like a big mess. @ross.jason, you're right about the quiet part, his place sounded dead after he switched.
