That big box store on Coors sold me bad drywall mud twice

I went to the Home Depot on Coors last Tuesday to grab a bucket of pre-mixed joint compound. Got it home, opened it up, and it was full of dried chunks like someone left the lid off. Took it back the next day and the replacement bucket had the same problem. Now I only buy drywall mud from the lumber yard off Second Street even though it's out of my way. Has anyone else had issues with the big box stores selling bad compound around here?

Huh, that sucks but I gotta be honest, I think you might be overthinking it. I've grabbed joint compound from that same store a dozen times and never had a problem with dried chunks or anything. Maybe you just got unlucky with two bad buckets in a row. I'd say just shake the bucket extra hard before you open it and stir it up good if you're worried, that usually works for me.

Joseph, I get what you're saying about shaking the bucket, but honestly that "you just got unlucky" line feels like letting the store off the hook too easy. A big chain like Home Depot should be checking their stock before it hits the shelf, not making customers gamble on every bucket. If you're buying mud a dozen times with no issues, that's great for you, but you're ignoring how this guy had the exact same problem twice in a row. That suggests a batch problem or a stocking issue, not a one-time fluke. And telling someone to just stir it up harder ignores that dried chunks wreck the mud's consistency no matter how much you mix it. I say good on him for switching to the lumber yard where they actually care about what they sell.
