The guy at the lumber yard on Central told me to just use OSB for my shed floor

I was asking about 3/4 inch plywood and he said 'nobody out here pays for that, the ground's too dry to matter'. Has anyone actually had an OSB floor hold up past five years?

Did you seal the OSB edges before you put it down?

It's the same logic as using particle board for cheap furniture. It works fine until the first real spill or humidity spike. People get away with shortcuts for years until the one time conditions aren't perfect. That lumber guy has probably seen a hundred dry sheds, but he hasn't had to fix the one that failed. Betty's experience is the rule, not the exception. Materials are graded for a reason, and OSB just isn't meant for direct moisture contact, sealed or not.

He's right about the dry ground, but my OSB floor swelled at the edges after a few wet winters. I ended up putting down plywood over it.
