Man, I had a buddy whose tile quotes went from $900 to almost two grand for the same small bathroom floor. He just went with the middle guy and it turned out fine.

Start by agreeing with @parkerb75, that middle quote worked out fine thing is pretty common. I've seen it with anything home improvement related, not just tile. The low guy is either cutting corners or desperate for work, and the high guy is just throwing numbers at the wall. The middle quote usually lands where the contractor needs to make a fair profit without overcharging. Your mileage may vary, but I think there's a real pattern where the middle ground is where people actually care enough to do the job right.
