Told me to skip the vapor barrier in my adobe home in Albuquerque

My neighbor said vapor barriers are a waste in our climate, but after one wet monsoon season I found mold behind my drywall and had to rip out $2,000 worth of work in my North Valley house - has anyone else regretted listening to that advice?

Mold loves that trapped moisture, vapor barrier or not. Adobe homes need to breathe, drywall just seals that moisture in. Your neighbor may have cost you way more than $2k with that bad advice.

You ever wonder if that neighbor even owns a home themselves, @linda_mason82? Because sealing up adobe with drywall is like putting a plastic bag over a wet sponge and calling it fixed. The whole point of adobe is that it breathes and releases moisture naturally. Drywall just traps it, and before you know it, you're dealing with rot and mold behind the walls where nobody can see it. That $2k might end up being the cheap part if the whole wall starts crumbling from the inside out.
