Tried a new stucco color mix on my Sunport house and it turned out way darker

I wanted a light tan for my place near the airport, so I mixed the base with the tint myself. After three coats, it dried to a deep brown, almost like chocolate. The guy at the supply place on Central said the high desert sun can really change how the color sets. Has anyone else had a stucco color dry a lot darker than the sample?
