Hot take: my 2009 external drive with 400 gigs of old job photos suddenly clicked at me and I panicked
Last Tuesday I plugged in my old Seagate FreeAgent to pull a client file and it started making this soft click every 2 seconds, so I shut it down right away and didn't touch it again for two days. I ended up buying a $25 SATA enclosure at a shop off Airline Drive and swapping the bare drive into it, and it spun up fine, which makes me think the little board inside the old case gave out. Has anyone else saved a dying drive by doing the enclosure swap, or am I just lucky so far?
