Hot take: the payphone at Union Station still works and I use it to prove a point

Stopped by Union Station in Kansas City last month and spotted a row of 4 payphones near the north waiting area, and one of them picked up on the first ring. I dropped a quarter in out of pure curiosity and called my own cell, and it went through clear as day. Everyone around me looked at it like it was a fossil, but that phone has outlived 3 of my past smartphones in a row. Does anyone know who still keeps these things hooked up, or did I just get lucky with a forgotten line?
