PSA: I was dead wrong about CRT monitors for retro gaming

I used to think people who kept those heavy Sony Trinitrons around were just being nostalgic. Then I plugged my old SNES into a modern flat screen and the input lag was so bad I couldn't time my jumps in Super Mario World. Swapped in a free 20 inch Dell CRT from 2004 my neighbor was tossing out. Now everything feels exactly like I remember from my bedroom in 1996. Anyone else have a similar wake up call with old display tech?

Whoa wait, you actually kept a CRT after trying it? I had basically the same moment but it was way more annoying. I lugged my heavy old Nintendo 64 to a friend's house and plugged it into his giant flat screen. The input lag was so bad I couldn't even steer in Mario Kart 64 without crashing into walls. Felt like I was playing underwater or something. Next day I fished my old 13 inch CRT out of the garage and suddenly I was back to beating ghosts on Rainbow Road like nothing had changed. It's wild how much of a difference these old screens actually make.
