Keep it plugged into the computer or a charger whenever you're not actively listening. I had a 120gb classic that would just die randomly after a couple hours away from a sync. Turned out the battery was just shot from sitting in a hot car. Dropped a new one in for like 20 bucks off ebay and it's been fine since. Also made sure to only use the original Apple cable - the cheap gas station ones messed with the connection and made it freak out.

Ngl, how do you even safely swap the battery without wrecking the click wheel or the aluminum back? Always been scared to crack mine open.
