Went with a CRT monitor over an LCD back in '08...

I had to choose between a free 19 inch CRT from a garage sale in Portland or saving up for a cheap LCD. I picked the CRT because it was $0 and I was broke. That thing lasted me 6 years for retro gaming before the colors finally went weird. Has anyone else stuck with old displays way longer than they should have?

Good for you for making that thing last. Six years out of a free monitor is a solid win in my book. I had a 19 inch CRT from a thrift store that I kept running until 2011 because I couldn't stomach spending money on a new screen. The picture was warm and fuzzy for old games, but it weighed a ton and made my desk sag in the middle. Finally gave up when it started buzzing louder than my old car. I get it, sometimes you just can't let go of a good thing even if it's outdated.

You got that right about the buzzing. Its like theyre trying to tell you something. My old monitor would hum so bad in the morning on cold days, I swear it was talking to me. The desk sag is a real thing too, I had to wedge a folded up magazine under one corner to keep it level. And the warm fuzzy picture thing is a real trade off, you remember the good parts but forget how bad it was to move them around.
