Customer's phone video caught something I almost missed on a compressor call
Last Thursday I was diagnosing a no-cool on a fridge in Bakersfield, thought I had it pegged as a bad start relay. Customer pulls out his phone and shows me a clip of the compressor humming then cutting out after 10 seconds. Turns out the overload was tripping but not from the relay, the windings were reading fine but the ground wire was arcing inside the terminal block. That clip saved me from swapping a part that wouldn't have fixed it. Anyone else use customer phone footage as a second set of eyes when symptoms are intermittent?
Couldn't you just have him text you the clip so you can slow it down frame by frame before you even roll a truck? Half the time the customer's video shows the overload trip pattern better than standing there with a meter, since you actually see the whole cycle instead of guessing when it'll cut out.
