Mixing up old and new dryer belt sizes cost me a whole afternoon

Back then, dryer belts typically fit many models, so swapping them was fast. Last week, I assumed a newer model used the same belt without looking it up. The belt was a bit too tight and made the drum screech loudly. Now I check every part number to avoid repeat calls.

Yeah but a close belt can still burn out the motor over time.

Honestly, the wrong belt size once made my dryer shake like it was possessed! It was a tiny difference in length, but the whole machine wobbled on the floor. I double-check the numbers now even if it seems like a close match.

Understand why you'd check now after that noise, but I don't get that careful every time. Sometimes a belt that's close in size still works just fine if you can adjust the tension a little. I've used a belt labeled for a different model more than once without any trouble. Being too strict about the exact part number can waste just as much time.
