That 20 year old fridge compressor finally gave up on me Tuesday

I mean, it was a beater unit in a rental I've serviced for ages, and the compressor just seized mid-cycle with no warning. I ended up swapping in a used one from a salvage place for $150, but has anyone else noticed the newer sealed units just don't run as long as the old ones?
