That Saturday shift at a rental complex near Phoenix taught me something about dryer vents

I was clearing a clog in a four-unit building and found a bird's nest made entirely of lint and dryer sheets. The unit hadn't dried right in months because of that thing. Has anyone else pulled something weird out of a vent that made you rethink your whole inspection process?

...and that's exactly why I started using a camera scope on every single vent cleaning I do, no matter how simple it looks on the outside. I was at a rental place near Tucson a few years ago, the tenant kept complaining about a musty smell coming from their bathroom. I pulled the vent cover off and found a dried up toad, I mean completely mummified, jammed right at the bend where the pipe goes through the wall. The poor thing must have crawled in from outside. Ever since then I won't just stick a brush in and hope for the best. I run the camera first and I've found everything from a tennis ball to a really old candy wrapper that had basically turned into plastic. It's amazing the junk that gets in those tight spaces.

Wait, you pulled out a mummified toad? That's definitely a new one for me. I gotta say though @linda_mason82, that tennis ball find is wild - I bet some kid shoved it in there on a dare or something. But I think calling it "mummified" is a stretch, more like just dried out really bad. Still gross either way. I'm with you on the camera scope though, it's saved me from a few surprises too.

Yeah but was the candy wrapper still edible? Asking for @linda_mason82.
