Universal compressors are fine in a pinch, but I'll take OEM every time
I know most guys say a universal will work just as well on any fridge, but I swapped one into a 5 year old Frigidaire last month and the startup sounded like a dying cat. Replaced it with the OEM part and it purred. Has anyone else had bad luck with universals on newer units?

Haven't tried a universal on anything that new.

That startup like a dying cat" is exactly what I heard on a newer Whirlpool last year, swapped the universal out and never looked back. I won't use them on anything made after 2020 anymore.
