Wasted $75 on a universal dryer motor that didn't fit my specific Whirlpool model
I grabbed a universal replacement motor from the supply house in town thinking it would save me a trip, but the mounting bracket was off by about an inch. Ended up having to order the exact OEM part anyway and lost the afternoon's labor. Anyone else have a go-to spot for checking part compatibility before you buy?

Oof, that "lost the afternoon's labor" part is the real kicker. Been there. Do you usually just trust the supply house guy's word on compatibility, or did you try to look it up yourself first? I'm curious what method let you down.

Trusting the supply house guy is a gamble I stopped taking years ago. Now I cross-check everything with the manufacturer's website before I even leave the counter. It adds five minutes but saves half a day.
