A bad wedge cut on a big oak taught me more than any class
Last month I was felling a 30 inch red oak and my wedge popped out because I didn't check the back cut angle. The tree sat there for 20 minutes while I re-cut everything, sweaty and embarrassed in front of the client. Anyone else have a simple mistake that stuck with you longer than any certification course?

Keep a spare wedge and a sledge in the truck, always. That 20 minutes of sweating beats hauling equipment back to the shop later. I’ve had a bar pinched worse than that, and the extra set saved a full hour of cutting and swearing.
