A quiet moment after saving a historic maple from storm damage
Last week, we got called to a property with a big maple hit by lightning. Back in the day, we might have just cut it down, but now we have better ways to check and save it. We did some careful cabling and pruning, and it's standing strong. The owner was so relieved, and it felt good to keep that tree. How do you all deal with storm-damaged trees now compared to years ago?

My first attempt at pruning looked like a beaver attack.

Honestly thatâs how we all start. My momâs rose bush still has bald spots from my first hack job. You get nervous and cut too much, or you leave weird long stubs that look awful. Tbh plants are pretty tough though, they usually grow back even from a beaver attack. Youâll figure out the shape of it with practice.

Beaver attack sounds a bit dramatic tbh.
