Dropped $340 on a used stump grinder and it paid for itself in 3 weeks
Picked up a beat up Vermeer 630 from a guy in Gastonia who was retiring, and I was sure I had just burned $340 on scrap metal. It coughed and stalled twice on the first job but after a new spark plug and a fuel line it chewed through 14 stumps in one weekend, which covered the cost and then some. Now I'm wondering how long I can run this thing before it needs real work, so what's the usual life on these little grinders?
Man, hate to burst your bubble but that 14 stumps in a weekend didn't cover the cost, it just felt like it did because the work was easy. For a real job you're charging way more than 340 spread across 14 stumps, so that machine paid for itself way faster than 3 weeks. As for life, those little 630s can run years if you keep up on the cutters and don't let it sit with old gas.
