Found a chart showing how much a mature oak can actually drink in a day
I was reading an old forestry report from the University of Georgia extension site last night. It said a single, fully grown water oak can pull up over 100 gallons of water from the soil on a hot summer day. That number just blew my mind. I've been telling clients their trees need maybe 20 gallons a week during a drought. It really puts into perspective why some established trees just crash so hard when we get a serious dry spell. Has anyone else had to totally rethink their watering advice after seeing the real numbers?
