Just counted 37 distinct fungal species on a single removal job's wood chip pile.

It made me realize how much biodiversity we're literally chipping away at, and now I'm curious if anyone has a good method for documenting this stuff for local conservation groups.

For documenting stuff like that, I just use a plant ID app and take a ton of clear photos with my phone. It's good enough to get a basic species list for a conservation group.

I used to think wood chips were just dead material, but seeing 37 species on one pile is a real eye opener. That's a whole little world we're breaking up. @noahhernandez has the right idea with the phone photos and an app, it's way better than doing nothing. I'm going to start doing that too, because even a basic list could help show what's being lost.
