My old Husqvarna 372XP finally threw a rod yesterday

I was doing a takedown on a big silver maple in Toledo and it just locked up with a nasty grinding sound. Had to finish the job with my backup saw, a Stihl MS261, which felt like using a toy after the 372. Anyone have a good source for a full rebuild kit that won't cost more than the saw is worth?

Oh man, that's rough. I rebuilt my 372 a couple years back after similar carnage. I had good luck with a Meteor piston kit from HL Supply, and the crank was still okay. Whole thing ran me about $150 in parts.

Meteor kits are hit or miss sometimes but I've ran three of them in different saws without any issues. The key is making sure you clean out the transfer ports and match the ring gap right before you slap it together. That $150 deal was just piston, rings, wrist pin, and a gasket set. Cylinder was still clean after a light hone job, so reused it. If the cylinder is scored up bad you are looking at more money for sure, but a lot of guys toss them too quick when they could still be saved with some work. Clay's got a good video on youtube about saving a scored 372 cylinder with a ball hone, worth checking out before you buy a whole new top end.

Meteor kits are decent but I've seen a few fail early. That price seems low, did that include a new cylinder too?
