PSA: stop babying oak wilt cuts in summer, I tried the opposite

The old guys in Houston told me never to prune oaks after April, but I took a chance on a storm-damaged live oak in July, sealed every cut with shellac within 20 minutes, and the tree is thriving two months later, so has anyone else found that timing matters less than quick sealing?

Heard about a buddy who chopped a broken limb off his pecan tree in August, skipped the sealer entirely, and it rotted out within a year. So yeah, quick sealing seems way more important than the calendar to me.
