Spent 4 hours yesterday trying to get a 36-inch oak stump out of a tight backyard in Decatur

The root flare was fused to the foundation wall, so we couldn't just grind it. Anyone have a trick for that besides just chipping away with a mini-ex and a sawzall?

Oh man, that sounds like a nightmare. I once spent a whole weekend on a stump that turned out to be holding up half my fence.

Actually, if the root flare is fused to the foundation, you really want to be careful with a sawzall near that wall. Could nick a rebar or something. A demo hammer with a clay spade bit might let you break that bond without risking the concrete. Slow going, but less chance of a costly mistake.
