Switched from a rope wrench to a mechanical multiascender for SRT climbing...

Been climbing with a rope wrench for about 4 years now, but last month I finally tried out a Rope Runner 2.0 on a 90 foot white oak we were thinning out over a deck. Night and day difference in how smooth the ascent feels, especially when you're hanging there for 45 minutes making cuts. Anyone else switch setups late and wonder why you waited so long?

Stood there wrestling with a jammed friction hitch for ten minutes last week and finally understood the appeal. Feels like climbing gear follows the same trend as everything else these days - they keep making stuff more idiot proof and you don't realize how much you were fighting your old setup until you try the new one. My buddy still swears by his old school Blake's hitch on a single line and I just nod and let him figure it out.

Tie a half hitch above the friction hitch next time. Keeps it from locking up so bad when you're weighted.
