Used to climb every big removal with a handsaw... now I hardly touch one
Back in my first three years I'd always pack a Silky Zubat for any large limbing job, figured it was faster than dragging a chainsaw up the rope. Then I took a weekend course on aerial chainsaw techniques down at the Ohio chapter workshop last spring and realized I was burning twice the energy for half the work. Has anyone else found that switching to a lightweight top-handle saw changed how you approach removals?

Did you find the top-handle helped with fatigue on the bigger limbs too? I used to spend way too long on a handsaw before switching, and for me the key was learning to keep the saw on the rope and not fight the balance. It's a night and day difference once you get past the learning curve, idk why I waited so long.

Wow, that's a good point. Did the lighter saw mess with your cut speed at first?
