Vent: I always thought topping trees was lazy, but a 2019 study out of Florida changed my mind
I spent my whole career ripping on guys who top trees, then a buddy sent me a study from the University of Florida that tracked 40 live oaks over 6 seasons for hurricane prep. Turns out the topped ones had way less limb failure than the ones guys like me left alone, because the shorter canopy caught less wind. Now I'm wondering if I've been wrong about this my whole life, so has anyone else read that study or tried topping for storm prep down south?
