Had to pick between a 3D scan and a hand-drawn map of a dig site in Nevada last month
The 3D scanner was $400 to rent for a day and the hand-drawn map was free with my own time. I went with the scanner because the site had these tiny bone fragments scattered everywhere. Got home, loaded the scan into the software, and the thing glitched out on half the data. Spent the next two days sketching from memory and photos. Should have just done the drawing onsite. Anyone else have tech fail on them right when it mattered most?

Wait how old was the scanner? Some of those older model Artec units are notorious for corrupting files if you unplug them wrong. Did the rental place mention anything about firmware updates before you took it out?

Is it possible the rental place skipped telling you about known issues with that model? That's really frustrating, I hope the file damage wasn't too severe.
