I always thought the Cahokia mounds were just big hills until I visited last month

The scale of Monk's Mound is what got me. It's a whole city you're standing on.

My buddy took me there back in 2018 (I was just getting into pressure washing at the time, so I had no money but he covered the trip). Standing on top feels weird because you realize all those people built it by hand, basket by basket of dirt. That's like millions of trips up and down that hill over decades. And the whole complex around it, with the woodhenge circles and the big open plaza areas, covers like four square miles or something crazy. Makes my backyard look pretty sad with just a few tomato plants.
