I just cataloged my 500th pottery shard from the same dig site

We've been working a field in central Turkey for three seasons now, mostly finding small pieces. Hitting that number made me realize how much material is still in the ground from just one small village. Do you ever get surprised by the sheer volume of stuff a single site can hold?

Man, it hits hard with creative stuff. Like you'll spend weeks on a painting, but then you see all the empty space you didn't even touch, or the way the light really works. That blank canvas feels bigger after you fill some of it, not smaller.
