Just got back from Pompeii and honestly the graffiti sections are the real story

Everyone raves about the frescoes and the plaster casts, but I spent 4 hours staring at the scratched-up election notices and tavern walls, and I left thinking we've got the whole civilization wrong because those little scribbles show way more daily life than the fancy villas ever will, anyone else feel like the tourist sites skip the messy parts on purpose?
