PSA: A dig at Pompeii found a snack bar with 80 fast food counters, and that broke my brain a little
I was reading a site update from the Pompeii Archaeological Park last week and they mentioned a thermopolium on Via dell'Abbondanza had something like 80 jars still sitting in the counter when they uncovered it. I always pictured one rich family per house, not a whole street of grab and go lunch spots, and now I can't stop thinking about what a Roman lunch rush looked like. Does anybody know if they ever figured out what was in those jars, or are they still testing the residue?
