PSA: I was reading dig site maps wrong for 2 years and a grad student in Tucson pointed it out
I keep a binder of site maps from work in the Southwest and I always matched the north arrow to the top of the page, which seemed obvious. Last month a grad student from the University of Arizona watched me do it and said half the older maps in that collection are rotated, so the arrow can point any direction. How do you all keep track of orientation when you are working from scans of old field notes?
