Question about the old way we used to dig at the Tell es-Safi site
Back in the early 2000s, I was working a square at Tell es-Safi in Israel, and we were still hand-troweling everything, which was slow going. The whole field changed for me when a professor brought in a small drone to map the surface, showing features we'd completely missed from the ground. Does anyone else miss the feel of the dirt but admit the new tools are just better?

Remember my buddy working a site in Jordan, sweating over a grid for weeks. They brought in a lidar scan from a plane and it showed a whole street plan right under them. He said it felt like cheating, but you can't argue with the map. I mean, his trowel would have never found that.
