Shoutout to the field school crew at Fort Vancouver, but the flagging tape we used in 2022 was a mistake
Three years ago we dug test units at Fort Vancouver and marked every level change with bright pink flagging tape, and I still think that was the worst call we made all season. The lead archaeologist, Dana, wanted the tape for fast profile photos, but the adhesive degraded in the summer heat and half the markers were gone by week two. We ended up re-measuring nine units by hand with a plumb bob and line level, which cost us four extra days. Does anyone else think flagging tape in the field is overrated, or am I the only one who trusts nails and string more?
