TIL my 8 year old found a 'tool' in the garden and it turned out to be a real scraper
My son was digging behind the shed in our yard in Rockford last spring and came running in with a flat piece of stone he swore was a knife. I almost tossed it in the bucket, but I took a photo and sent it to the county historical society, and a volunteer said it looked like a Late Woodland scraper, maybe 800 to 1,000 years old. We flagged the spot and stopped digging there, and now the whole patch is roped off with garden stakes until someone can look at it properly. I keep thinking about all the stuff I dug up as a kid and threw away because nobody told me to ask first. Has anyone here had a random find turn out to be the real deal?
