Visited the new dig site near Mesa Verde and the pottery shard density is wild

I was out there last month and the team let me see their main trench. They've mapped over 300 pieces of decorated black-on-white pottery in a single 10x10 meter square. The lead archaeologist said it's three times the usual amount for that area and time period. It makes you wonder if it was a major trade hub or a dumping ground for broken stuff. They're still figuring out if it was a seasonal camp or something more permanent. Has anyone else seen a site with that much surface material in one spot?

Maybe they were just really bad at pottery.

My pottery skills are on par with that, @evan_morgan81.
