Why does everyone keep calling that Roman coin hoard in Suffolk a 'treasure chest' find when it was just a broken pot in a field ditch?
It really changes how people picture the past, and I know because I read the actual dig report from the county council that clearly said the coins were scattered and the container was just a few ceramic shards.

Ugh, it drives me nuts. My buddy was on a dig where they found a single silver spoon and the local paper called it a "stunning silver service stash." It's just for clicks. Like @emma684 said, they'll call one coin a hoard. That Suffolk pot was basically crumbs in a hole, not a chest.

Wasn't there a news story last year that called a single gold coin a 'treasure hoard'?

I mean honestly I'd be thrilled if someone found a broken pot in my backyard and started calling it a treasure chest. At this point my life could use a little dramatic flair, even if it's just for a cheap news headline. Guessing the coin hoard wasn't exactly a pirate's dream either?
