I spent 8 months riding past the W&OD Trail without realizing I was missing the best part of Arlington
I moved to Arlington about a year ago and for 8 months I kept driving to the Custis Trail or heading into DC for rides because I figured the W&OD was just a boring straight shot out to the suburbs. Last weekend a guy at Conte's Bike Shop on Wilson Blvd asked why I never take the W&OD west from Bon Air Park and I didn't have a good answer. He told me to ride out to Vienna and back, so I did, and the section through Falls Church and behind the Westover shops is genuinely one of the nicest stretches of pavement around here. It has shade, it has a few little climbs, and the mile markers actually make sense for once. I did 24 miles round trip and barely touched a road with cars on it. What other Arlington trails am I sleeping on that I should try next?
